At sunhigh, the forest glimmered with color, the bright, changing leaves flashing overhead. Only a few rebellious swatches of green remain, stark and strange against the shades of fire on the high branches. Through the undergrowth stalks a cat, barely visible against the strand of silver birch, so well does his fur blend in. Brackenclaw sits licking at one front paw, gazing around himself imperiously with his storm-gray eyes. There is a flash of indignation here, and perhaps of disappointment, for of recent he was not chosen as a mentor. True, he had been away from the clan, stalking down and through the wild country as he had been used to do in the days of his youth. Besides, the parents would hardly have requested him; he had quite a reputation for being abrasive and harsh in these things.
With a flick of his tail he glanced around sharply, scenting the air with the sudden predatory intensity that all cats have. His ears flick, his whiskers test the currents of the wind. A mere shift in the leaves has elicited every fiber of his being into attention, nothing more than motion across the relative stillness of the forest. It is a rabbit, warily poised at the lip of a hole, not having yet become aware of the cat. Brackenclaw watches it for a moment, but it is far too close to the safety of the warren for him to go after from this angle - it will simply dash out of his grasp and down into the safety of the Earth, where his paws cannot touch and his claws cannot reach. So he sits, tense now, lowering softly down into a crouching position, waiting for the creature to bound just a little closer... into his waiting jaws... |

The days where getting colder here in Iceclan and Barkpelt knew he was one to be freezing other than his adoptive mother Icestar, mostcats here has short fur which barely grew out in the winter, that was a problem for Iceclan cats. They where swimmers, slim cats with the agile body of killers. But Barkpelt was on a mission he had to find Brackenclaw. Icestar had made up her mind right after coming back from the gathering, it was not her whom needed an apprentice, it was this new warrior, she would give him Breezepaw.
The tom raced true the woods, his brown pelt blending in nicely to the changing leaves. So Barkpelt decides to climb up a tree and look around, There he is, the tom starts jumping branch to branch, he likes doing this for fun. Soon Barkpelt jumps down, right in from of Brackenclaw fron a tree, hoping he didnt scare him. ''Hi''.

I crouched in a hunting position but I wasn't hunting prey. Well I was until I saw a dark tabby cat stalking a rabbit. I crept closer and closer silently, swiftly. This will be easy. I thought. This was my prey. This could be an enemy. This is an enemy. I reminded myself. He is an enemy until proven wrong. Plus he was stealing our prey! The prey that we needed more than ever to stock up for Bareleaf. A slight growl came to my throat as I stalked the last few feet then pounced. I immediatly felt fur hit my paws and I knew that I hit him squarely. I quickly pinned him down. "Who are you and what are you doing stealing IceClan's prey! More importantly why are you on our territory!?" I hissed at the rogue. I bared my sharp, white teeth as I fineshed. My green eyes blazed with fury and my fire colored pelt stood on edge. "Tresspassers are not welcome on IceClan territory." I growled. "Don't try fighting me either. I'm more of a match for you rogue." I remembered all of the moves that Hazelcloud had taught me and then felt my blood starting to whisper to me again. I grinned devilishly, a gleam of amusement showing in my eyes. Yeah if this cat tried fighting me he would end up on the ground dying with in ten seconds. I looked up to see Barkpelt. I wondered why he hadn't taken care of this rogue. I gave him a look that said "Why are you greeting him like a clanmate? He's an enemy!" Then I turned back to staring into the rogue's storm grey eyes.

Brackenclaw was not of the regular build for an Iceclan cat, for the most part because he had been born rogue, a straggler, child of the enemy. He had been lucky to find a home here, and he was extremely grateful for it. He doesn't see Barkpelt coming, but the rabbit that he has been stalking startles and jumps back to the safety of the warren. When Barkpelt lands in front of him, Brackenclaw bristles angrily, looking after the lost prey with a wistful expression. "You just lost me a nice plump rabbit," he hisses, but his composure doesn't fly away in this situation, "that would have fed you later." He doesn't recognize Barkpelt, who he hardly knew when he left on a voyage to the Tribe of Dawn Skies, a good will sort of thing with a couple of other cats, who had sadly either stayed with the Tribe or been taken by Starclan. One could only expect such things with a long journey, of course.
Suddenly Fireflight collided with him and pinned him down - he had been taken unawares. However, she had made a beginner's error, leaving his back legs free. A cat's back claws, used with force from below, were one of his greatest weapons, and Brackenclaw kicked out like a rabbit, scraping the soft underbelly of the orange queen and rolling clear of her, ears pinned and fur standing on end. He could tell that this was another Iceclan cat, a youngster who didn't know him. "Didn't your mentor ever teach you not to attack without asking questions first? Or leave your belly exposed like that, you slimy little traitorous bit of mouse dung?" he snarled, anger contorting his features and claws extended. "I am no rogue! I am a proud warrior of Iceclan, and no half-taught bit of crowfood could get the best of me in that way."
Indignantly, he flicked his tail and rose his head, "And unlike some of us, I don't attack my own clanmates. Stand down, or I shall be forced to teach you a lesson you won't soon forget." his eyes hardened into gray points, and his tail lashed out furiously, stirring up the leaves. His annoyance of having his prey scared away by Barkpelt had been eclipsed completely by this sudden attack. |

Barkpelt felt bad, he could see that the male had been hunting, he looked down in shame, ''Sorr-'', but the tom could not finish his sentence. A fire colored cat came flying out of the woods and jumped Brackenclaw. Barkpelt jumped back in surprise but son realized it was Fireflight, ''What are you doing! he is our clan mate, get of him!''. The young warrior was mad, his amber eyes blazing, but wnated to started to drag of Fireflight by her scruff, but Brackenclaw had already took her off, soon he knew she would explode like she usually did, but she was Fireflight, ''Icestar needs him, so get of'', it was hard but Barkpelt wanted to pin her down, but he could not.

I yoweled and jumped back onto Brackenclaw, being careful not to make that mistake again. "I am not half trained! You don't even know me!" My eyes never left Brackenclaw. "If I attack you, you would have been finieshed by now!" I snapped. "Icestar won't need this piece of mouse dung when I'm done with him." I hissed to Barkpelt but still didn't take my focuse off of this new cat. My emerald eyes blazed with fury and I hardly could think. I felt strength pluse through me and I pressed harder againest Brackenclaw. My claws were starting to come out when I heard a familar voice yell at me. Fireflight stop! He's IS your clan mate stop! Get off of him! I shook my head and battled with the StarClan warrior. Fine Squirrelflight but if he insults me one more time...I'll make crowfood out of him! You know what I can do! I relutantly got off of him and hissed at him, my pelt still bristling. I looked at Barkpelt, fury still blazing in my eyes. "I don't care if he's a clan mate. He insults me one more time, he's crowfood." I turned to him. "Your lucky that someone stopped me." I growled.

Brackenclaw, who had been ready for her attack this time, and being older and larger than her, was not flipped onto his back, instead she landed full on top of him and was, again, in a bad position. However, she got off before he had a chance to act on anything, so shocked was he that his own clanmate would attack him, again. "You let your silly emotions get too much in the way of your fighting, and therefore you are half-trained. I do not insult you, I speak the truth," he growled, his face close to her's, before stepping away and moving to sit a few lengths away, his tail lashing furiously. "I do not fight kits." His eyes still on Fireflight, he then spoke to Barkpelt. "I will come to see her if this impertinent queen will get out of my way. Who does she think she is, to break our code so flagrantly and to attack her own clanmates? I can't believe Icestar would allow such a dirty little traitor into our ranks."
He shifted slightly, his tail still lashing out in the dirt violently, his eyes narrowed to pinpricks of stormy light and anger. "Stand aside, or I will be forced to make you," he snarled at Fireflight, "My leader has called me, and it is to her I shall go, and if I have to do so over your dead body, I will do so, though I assure you I do not relish the idea." He had no doubt that, if Fireflight were to attack, Barkpelt and himself were more than a match for her, and they would be forced not to stand and bear a traitorous attack by the she-cat, who seemed far too rash and impulsive for her own good. |

The tom could not believe these two, he shook his head, ''Icestar would be a shamed of you two, fighting your own clan mates. But come along, she would like you to have an apprentice''. The brown warrior walk of head shaking, he was mad and confused, he had heard of Brackenclaw and knew he was coming back but Fireflight, she was a problem sometimes, sighing he entered camp, calling for his 'mom'.

I was getting ready to leaped on him again when Barkpelt spoke. "Yes she would but I don't think she would appreciate one of her own WARRIOR being called a traitor." I said through gritted teeth. "As for you. I am not a kit nor a traitor and I think I know StarClan and the warrior code better than YOU do." I snapped. I didn't follow either of them into camp instead I took my own way through the woods to calm me down. I snorted. Brackenclaw probably thought that they were more than a match for me together but he was wrong. No one but Hazelcloud knew what I really could do. Soon I would show them. I would show them all! My pelt still bristled and my tail lashed furiously as I marched into camp. I looked around with blazing green eyes as Barkpelt called for Icestar. I didn't look at the new cat. To me he would always be a rogue until he proved himself to me in some way that he was good enough to be in Iceclan.

Brackenclaw watched Fireflight leave with a hint of satisfaction on his face, glad that she didn't attack after all. Clearly this cat was violent and dangerous, and didn't think before she acted - she was going to be trouble for the clan if ever he knew trouble for what it was. He nodded at Barkpelt and followed him into camp. "...Yes, I thought she might, she can hardly deal with an apprentice of her own when she has warriors like that to deal with," he said, not without a hint of amusement, "when did she come here, do you know? I'm afraid that my journeys have lost me more than my standing in Iceclan." There were so many cats here now that he didn't recognize... Who could tell that he hadn't been born here from a single glance at his frame.
Well, at least he knew Icestar. He looked around for her hopefully - there was more that they had to talk about than apprentices, although most of the details of his nearly disastrous voyages into Tribe lands had already been given. For one, he had to question her about this mysterious she-cat who didn't seem to be trained in the warrior code at all, who attacked her own clanmates and didn't think before she acted. Her rash attitude, he knew all too well, could bring more trouble than it was worth. And if she harmed his clan? Well, he would not sheath his claws then, he knew that much for sure. |

Barkpelt lead his friend to Icestar's den, ''We have an aces of Apprentices, like it was a baby boom''. He held the moss and waited for Brackenclaw to walk in.
Icestar heard the two toms, her eyes then looked up, ''Brackenclaw!''. The leader ten stood up a smile on her face, she was so happy to see him back, she had many questions to ask but first, ''How was it?''.

Brackenclaw smiled at Barkpelt's words, chuckling deep in his throat. "Yes, but perhaps it is a blessing, also. A time of prosperity for the clan," he had decided that he liked Barkpelt well enough, the cat seemed sensible, not about to do anything crazy. When he saw Icestar up ahead his eyes brightened and his stride lengthened to come to her more quickly. "Greetings, Icestar," he said happily, glad to see that at least one cat here remembered him and appreciated his skill as a warrior. "Oh, you know, the usual. I was chased by rogues, attacked by rats, got in a fight with a badger... that sort of thing. We got to the tribe ok... but poor Leafnose was run down by one of man's machines on a road... And just now, when I got into camp, one of your warriors attacked me."
His temper seemed to have faded, and in fact he looked rather amused by this. "Gotten a little bit loose on who we let into the clan, haven't we?" he asked with a chuckle, but not disapprovingly, "feisty little thing might just grow up to be a decent warrior if only she'd think before unsheathing her claws. The Tribe of Dawn Skies extends their greetings and their friendship, although as usual they wish to remain apart from the business of the clans. How are things here, at home? Barkpelt tells me that we have something of an infestation of apprentices." |

I crept up slowly to where the cats were talking. I was unseen unheard. I listened to him and my pelt bristled with anger, once more. A little loose on the Clan? Was he crazy! It was unwise to say that! I hated that cat with every fiber of my being. I would have to show him! I would have to show everyone!
