The leader though about this all night, it was bright out now, she was happy, though her decision was made. She had been watching her clan and now she would say, Icestar walked to Highrock and called out, ''Let all cat old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the High Rock for a clan meeting''. She watched as slowly her clan came to life, kits, apprentice and warriors, her eyes where bright. ''I say these words before Starclan, that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of Starclan is Irisbreeze!''. The leader looked down at Irisbreeze a smile on her face, she did love and Admire Firelfight but the she-cat was a fighter, she judged her own clan mate and threatening him etc. Icestar jumped down and licked the she-cats ear, ''Im glad for you Iris''.

The magic words were called and as demanded were obeyed. Swift striked paws carried a lithe frame into the dirt ground clearing. Amber eyes questioned why the meeting was called, there must not be anything else wrong. The copy of the tabby had not received anymore dreams. The propechy was fully revealed as known by everyone else. Defined ears swivelled, two different thoughts to two different motions. Thin tail sweeped the ground and flicked in confusion, but a cool aura surrounded the warrior. Muscular shoulders rippled under a earth coloured tigers pelt. Soon after the fiery hearted she-cat had settled, she was called up again. Pride shone in her heart and eyes, the dark tabby's doubts vanished from her mind. Deputy. The dark eyed mentor was starting to believe that she wasn't good enough, that Fireflight was better than her. Now it was confirmed that that was not true. Iceclan's warrior was restored to herself as she dipped her head to her leader humbly. Knowing that she hadn't been the best clan member in the world, the tabby felt bad. It seemed that Icestar's motherly love for the twins had been replaced by Fireflight. It was a true thought but easily accepted. It didn't matter all that much, she was deputy now and one of the best. That's all the dark eyed she-cat had ever wanted. To be important.
"Thankyou Icestar."
Her firm voice mewed back quietly.

I heard Icestar's call and I knew what it was about. I walked out swiftly and sat below the Highrock looking up at the white she cat. But when she called out the name it was not mine. I walked up to the new deputy. "Congratulations..." I said softly then sluck away to the other side of the clearing. I sat with my back to the crowd and looked at the ground sadly. I known why I wasn't chosen. I had threatened Brackenclaw but he had threatened me too! I suppose Icestar had not heard about that. I hissed softly to where it was hardly heard and clawed the ground. I would become the best one day! I would! I would be the best warrior this Clan had ever known. I was determined to do that and I would. Maybe I wasn't deputy but I would be one day.

Hazecloud sat near high rock, invisable to the other cats since he's dead. He told Adderpaw earlier that he needed to do something and he left the camp, only to become invisable and walked back in without another cat finding out. He watched as Fireflight sat away from the crowd with her back facing them. He stood up and walked over to her, walking through the other cats without them noticing. He sat down near her and became visable again. "Im sorry that you didnt get to be deputy Fireflight. I know that you were looking foreward to it." He said smoothly as he tried to cheer her up.

As soon as the medicine cat heard about who the new deputy was she gracefully careened toward her proud sister, happiness glistening in her eyes. The tabby purred at her sister and cuffed her over the ear, a sort of I told you so between sisters. They really were close, but didn't have time to show it. Dahliaheart was glad that her sister had received the deputy position because that's all she had wanted for her life. It was sad when one acheived something great and the other didn't, so the dark tabby was happy for her twin.
"I told you Irisbreeze."
Fondness rang in the sweet cats voice.
The dark tabby did not miss the note of sadness in the fiery cats voice but she didn't mind it. Fireflight had a right to be saddened, she had wanted the position too. The warrior heard her sister before she saw her, ducking quickly before her sister's paw could hit her head. Smiling the amber eyed she-cat flicked her sister's shoulder playfully. This was the first time they had really acted like sister's since they had been apprentices. It was a nice moment. Nothing worried the loyal tabby, not even the prophecy or Fireflight's sadness.

The leader was so happy, her clan was complete, the leader looked around, her daughter seemed so proud that her mentor was chosen, Barkpelt seemed as if he was glowing, eyes shining and all. Mistypaw was happy, confused but happy, and Morningflower was delighted!. Icesar then stood up and walked over to Fireflight, ''If im gone Iris will act like the new leader, if needed you can act like the deputy?''. The leader had seen the sadness in the cats eyes, she just had to help, even if she was not right for the job,

"You know that's not going to happen Icestar." I said and then turned to Hazelcloud. "You don't get it. No does. No one knows who I really am. Even you Icestar." I looked over to the group of cats that were so happy, they didn't have any problems. They didn't have a worry in the world. I tried to keep my neutral stance, not showing how I really felt though my eyes gave it all away. I was lost and needed to be found but no one could ever find me but myself. I tired reaching deep within myself, trying to find the cat that I was before happy, carefree. Though my temper was still the same I wouldn't react so severly to anything. I tried and tried but I couldn't. I was swepted away in a current of misery, which flickered on my features but then I pulled myself together again. I wouldn't break down in front of everyone, that would just add to the constantly building anger I had growing inside me.

Brackenclaw watched the proceedings with apparent boredom, sitting on his rump beneath Highrock. Once Irisbreeze had been chosen he looked up at the she-cat after loosing a yawn and stretching out luxuriously in the dirt. "You have my loyalty, Irisbreeze," he said, hiding his secret disappointment. He was older than Irisbreeze, and he'd been in the clan longer... One missed so much when they'd been traveling, and he felt just as dry and ignored as a puffball in the Autumn. Still, at least Icestar hadn't chosen Fireflight... he wouldn't have stood for that. He would stand for Irisbreeze, he would be a firm warrior like he always had been, and he wouldn't voice his inability to really trust this warrior above him. Her sister... Dahliaheart... was medicine cat, too. It was an odd decision, he decided, for Iceheart, some might think she was playing favorites.
At the impetuous attitude of Fireflight towards Icestar's extension of the mantle of head warrior, Brakenclaw grew alert, the fur on the back of his neck standing up. Clearly Iceheart had only been trying to appease and help the young she-cat! He wheeled on her angrily. "This is the second time, Fireflight, that you have shown yourself to be disloyal to the word of your leader," he said, bristling, an edge to his voice, "Icestar's choice is her choice, and you have no say in it. Today should not be a day in which we all cater to your brash foolishness, but instead one in which we greet Irisbreeze as our new deputy, and hope that she will be as wise and strong as any other cat here." |

"Did you come over here to make Fireflight more angry or not Brackenclaw? We didnt ask for your opinon in this conversation now did we hmm? If you were Fireflight's paws, you'll understand what she is going through and feeling now." Hazecloud said as he held a stern look at Brackenclaw. Just because he was older then Fireflight doesnt give him the right to be mean towards her. His eyes turned navy blue before they flashed back to their normal color. It happened quickly but he was sure that Brackenclaw saw his eyes change colors.

Suddenly a small burst of anger flowed through me. "Shut up! Just shut up! This is your fault Brakenclaw! I hate you! Don't you see! Your temper is nasty and sour. You have no respect for others you only have respect for yourself! Leave me alone! Leave this Clan alone! We don't need you around. Matter of face we've been doing just fine without you! You don't even know what's going on in the forest! You've been gone so long! Just because your a senior warrior doesn't give you the right to criticize me! The only cat I will EVER take orders from if my leader, Icestar. The only one I will stand criticize from! I will jump off a cliff and die for my Clan my leader! I don't care what any cat says! I'm who I am and that's a leader. I will lead a Clan someday! Even if it's not IceClan. I will." Determination mixed in with anger and sadness. Then everything gave way. The dam that was holding back all my anger sprung a leak. My claws slide out and my pelt bristled. My lips curled into a snarl and I hissed ferociously at the cats. No one in particular just everyone. My muscles gathered and I was getting ready to spring...

Tigerfire stood up now, after watching the goings on in silence. He touched his nose to Fireflight's shoulder, murmering lowly and quickly. "Fireflight, do not do anything you may regret later." He then moved to stand between his firey she-cat and Brackenclaw, his yellow eyes glowing with controlled anger. "Brakenclaw, you don't know anything about fireflight, or what she is feeling. If anyone here doubts her loyalty to Icestar they have fox dung for brains. That's all I have to say on the matter, and now if you had any common sense at all you will move along," He concluded. He then stepped back, this time to stand by fireflight, his tail whipping back and forth. Now he truely did look like Tigerstar, without the scars. But for some reason, he felt it was right to be standing here, fighting alongside Fireflight, his firey she-cat. He really felt something for her. "Don't let yourself get distracted by a pretty face!" A menacing voice hissed in his ear, and he was shaken out of his fantasy world.

The leader's eyes darted back from cat to cat, she still could not believe how divided her clan was, how angry Irisbreeze was, how overprotective Hazelcloud os, and everything else. She was the mad one now, her tail lashed from side to side, ears back, a loud and fierce yowl escaped her maw. ''What is wrong with my clan, bickering like young kits, and yes Fireflight you should just be happy for Iris, while Hazlecloud should just keep to his business and every one else'', Her eyes focused on Brackenclaw for a moment, she did not want to see any more fights. ''Now if you all will behave like kits i will treat you all like one. Go get moss and you all shall work as apprentice till i say so.'', With out another word the she-cat turned, and left to her den. I let out a yowl of defiance and anger. I leaped on top of Brackenclaw, no on could stop me now. My claws were out and I was about to take a chunk out of him... Then I realized what I was doing. I was attacking my own Clanmate and for what? A few words of criticism? My eyes grew wide with fear. Fear of myself. What had I become?! I scrambled off of him and ran blindly into the forest, not caring for Icestar's orders nor of what the rest of the clan had just witnessed. If they saw at all. I stopped when I reached the stream. I finally broke down. Everything was too much. The weight of the world seemed to crash down on my shoulders.

Tigerfire was shocked Fireflight had leaped on Brackenclaw, he was about to jump in and pull her off but she left, disappearing into the forest. He ran after her, until he fianally caught up with her. He sat beside her and gently licked her tears away, his pelt pressed against hers for support. He truely wanted to be there for her now, it wasn't just an act, like Tigerstar said it would be. Oh... I'm so confused... I swore myself to help Tigerstar get his revenge, but I can't fight these feelings.. what is happening to me?! He cried out in his head, he felt bad, how could he do this if he fell for the good fire?

Brackenclaw was temporarily thrown by how Tigerfire's eyes changed colors like that. Being a staunch disbeliever in all things mystical, however, he put it down to the red shades of the leaves, their reflections in the still air, against the orb of the sun. "Unlike you, my dear Fireflight, I do have a good deal of respect for any warrior who has earned their rightful place in their clan through wisdom and power," he said, not unkindly, licking one paw and rubbing it over his face in a totally unconcerned way. Fireflight was really acting like an impetuous kit, even if she herself didn't realize it, and he was not altogether surprised when she dashed off. Emotional, that one was. He looked back up at Icestar, agreeing with her wholeheartedly. Everything he had said and done was in her support, not to bring Fireflight down. He would have said the same to any cat who dared question the leader's choice.
He kicked out sharply as Fireflight landed on top of him, again taking him by surprise. With an outraged hiss, he sprang back and aimed a heavy cuff at her, feeling the blow pass through her whiskers as he had meant it to. Unlike her, his claws were sheathed. Outraged, he turned his gaze back to Icestar. "Have you ever considered," he spat, disgustedly, "that the evil fire might be nearer than you think?" Of course, being a bit of a skeptic himself, he did not but much stock in the prophecy. But that stupid kit had attacked him twice now, and just when he'd been thinking that she might settle down to be a good warrior. He cast a glance at Irisbreeze, now unable to keep the spite out of his tone even though his words were meant kindly. "Seems a bad omen, for your naming as deputy, does it not, when one cannot trust their own clanmates?" |
